Entrepreneurship in New Orleans

New Orleans startups are tackling big business and social challenges across industries and sectors — and they’re transforming the landscape of our region in the process.

For the past 15 years, visionaries in their fields have flocked to New Orleans to be a part of building something new, something better — with the full support and energy of the community behind them. Thanks to our region’s strong entrepreneurial spirit, a robust ecosystem and network of supporting resources now exists to help local startups and entrepreneurs thrive.

Local universities offer entrepreneurship curricula, the region’s award-winning talent development programs are steadily feeding talent pipelines for growing companies, and our booming technology sector continues to both bolster and benefit from New Orleans’s next generation of business leaders.

The result is the world’s largest community of real people ready to share answers, opinions, behaviors, profiles, and more. Founded in New Orleans in 2010, Lucid (then called Federated Sample) started off as a tiny startup in a coworking space and has grown exponentially over the last decade to a company with a couple hundred employees in offices on five continents. Ready

Billed as “the Uber of urgent care,” Ready (formerly Ready Responders) is a technology platform that sends trained healthcare professionals directly to your home any day of the week, including holidays. Those “responders” take vitals and ask questions to then share pertinent information with your care provider. The company, which partners with leading insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid in states across the country, was founded in New Orleans and now features additional offices in New York, L.A., and San Francisco. Ready also teamed up with Ochsner Health this year to reduce preventable emergency department visits and further support patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
