Health Science Careers in New Orleans

While elsewhere in the nation healthcare systems are shuttering or shrinking, New Orleans’s healthcare and bioscience sector continues to grow and diversify, offering clinical, academic, and administrative professionals their choice of stable, promising careers.

Anchored by the multi-billion-dollar Biosciences Economic Development District (BioDistrict), Greater New Orleans is making major strides towards the future of healthcare through investments in research and training. The region’s major hospital systems and medical schools are not only breaking ground in the lab, they also are concentrating their efforts on bringing those products and solutions to market.  The New Orleans BioInnovation Center has become the hub for our medical and university research to access funding, begin to scale, and commercialize their groundbreaking innovation.

In addition to traditional careers for practitioners and clinicians, the region offers rich opportunities to touch and transform every aspect of the health sciences.

AxoSim

AxoSim was founded to address unsustainably high clinical failure rates that cost pharmaceutical companies billions of dollars and patients years of waiting for new medications and therapies for serious neurological diseases. The company spun out of Tulane University in 2014 with a license to proprietary technology and the potential to solve the challenge of modeling human results in vitro.

Today, AxoSim’s Nerve-on-a-Chip® and Mini-Brain platforms are revolutionizing the way that biopharmaceutical companies develop neurological drugs. AxoSim’s growing team of scientists, technicians, operations people, and more are making changes for patients while working in a vibrant, entrepreneurial, collaborative, and innovative atmosphere.
