Slidell is famous for its historic Antique District, with shops specializing in antique and distressed furniture, stained glass, art, and more. For lovers of theater, the Slidell Little Theater features a full yearly schedule of productions in varying size and is beloved by the community.

One of the biggest events in the area is the Slidell Heritage Festival, held each year on the 4th of July. The festival includes sensational music and entertainment, art displays, games for the kids, and, of course, a fantastic fireworks display.

Located northeast of Slidell, the Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1980 and encompasses 36,000 acres of the Pearl River Basin. This beautiful southern swampland is one of the least-disturbed natural wildlife areas in the country.

With just over 27,000 residents, Slidell is a relatively small city that features a vigilant police force and a strong sense of community responsibility. The city also features several neighborhood watch programs, homeowners' associations, and even a citizen training academy provided by the Slidell Police Department.

Schools

The elementary and middle schools are considered strong assets for the community. As part of the award-winning St. Tammany Parish School District, students have access to some of the best educators and resources in the state.

Northshore High School is one of two high schools that serve the residents of Slidell, with enrollment which has increased 10% over the last four years as more people call the city home. In addition to its rich academic offerings, the school has a wide range of clubs and sports for its students. Slidell High School is an athletic powerhouse in the region, with several alumni playing in both Major League Baseball and the National Football League.
