Many visitors to the community like to visit the Destrehan Plantation, which has daily tours and hosts events throughout the year including a big arts and crafts fair in the fall. Also popular is the Annual Spring Heritage Day and Civil War Encampment - a civil war reenactment festival that draws visitors from around the country.

For lovers of fresh food, Destrehan's German Coast Farmers' Market was named the #1 Farmers' Market in Louisiana in both 2010 and 2011 by American Farmland Trust.

Ormond Boulevard runs through the heart of town, and is home to many local restaurants, bakeries, bars and national chains. Popular restaurants include Frostop and the Breeze Cafe. Sport's Pub & Grill is one of the most popular bars in town, and is known as an amazing place to catch a Saints game.

Recreation
The Cypress Lakes Country Club at Ormond has a host of recreation activities for residents including golf, tennis, and swimming. There is also the East Bank Bridge Park, which has baseball and softball fields, a walking/running/biking track, and welcomes pets. Sports are extremely popular in the area for kids and adults alike, and many young people in town compete for local football, soccer and baseball teams.

Safety
Destrehan, with its suburban feel, is known as an extremely safe place to live. St. Charles Parish recently built a brand new, 39,000 sq. ft. Law Enforcement Complex to aid its police force in protecting the area, and there are many civic and community engagement groups who aid the police in keeping the area crime-free.

Schools

Destrehan High School is an excellent public school that has a good football team with several seniors every year recruited to major colleges, including LSU, Tulane University, Nicholls State University, and more. The school offers a strong music program and a college prep curriculum that prepares students for the next step in their academic career.

Destrehan kids can also enroll in courses at the popular Satellite Center, which provides an opportunity for junior and senior high school students in St. Charles Parish public schools to focus on a career-themed curriculum, preparing students to continue their education or be directly prepared to enter the workforce.

Walkability
Residents who live on Ormond Boulevard can walk to many stores and restaurants. Beyond this central corridor, however, a car is typically necessary and most residents are auto-dependant.
